The Opportunity
Our client, a leading manufacturer based in Leicester, is seeking a highly skilled CNC Team Leader to take charge of their CNC machining operations. This is a hands-on leadership role, perfect for someone with a strong technical background in CNC programming who also thrives on driving team performance, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Overseeing CNC programmes and machinery performance, ensuring correct setup, operation, and maintenance.
* Managing tooling stock, availability, and suitability for all jobs.
* Leading and motivating a team of CNC operators and programmers, setting clear performance targets and supporting development.
* Planning machining operations from technical drawings and specifications (including GD&T).
* Analysing CAD drawings to determine machining parameters, tool selection, feeds, and speeds.
* Monitoring output accuracy and ensuring work meets tight tolerances (down to 0.2mm).
* Carrying out quality inspections using precision instruments (micrometres, callipers, gauges, jigs).
* Working closely with the Production Manager and Planner to ensure CNC outputs align with business requirements.
* Reviewing and enhancing processes, systems, and workflows for efficiency.
* Promoting and maintaining a strong health & safety culture across the department.
What We’re Looking For
* Extensive experience in CNC programming and supervisory/lead roles.
* Solid understanding of CNC machinery, tooling, and maintenance principles.
* Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
* Strong problem-solving skills for machining and performance optimisation.
* Proven leadership experience – appraisals, coaching, performance management.
* Proficiency with quality inspection techniques and tools.
* Safety-first approach with knowledge of H&S legislation
