About the role:
A vacancy has arisen for a fixed-term (9 months), full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant in our Haematology Department, based at The Halo, 1 Mabledon Place, London.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
* Processing and separating different type of biological samples for laboratory testing and also assisting Biomedical Scientists in performing the routine diagnostics analytical work of the department.
* Entering patient requests into the pathology computer system, assigning laboratory numbers and carrying out clerical and technical tasks in accordance with sample handling procedures.
* Packaging biological samples for testing at external centres in accordance with handling regulations for biohazard materials
* Answering enquiries from health care professionals at the hospital, in the community and patients, regarding the specimen type, processing state and expected time frames for laboratory investigations.
The service includes routine Haematology and Coagulation, Haemglobinopathy and Flow Cytometry and you may have the opportunity to work within all sections of the department.
No prior experience is required but should have computer skills, good verbal & written communication skills, can work well in a team and have a flexible approach to both workload & task allocation.
The laboratory operates a 8:00am-9:00pm service so the successful candidate will be expected to participate in shifts to cover this period, according to departmental needs.
