We are seeking a kind, reliable and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to support a happy and lively teenage boy living in the Bugle area.
He has epilepsy, autism, some mobility needs and experiences difficulties with communication. He is looking for someone patient and consistent who he can build a positive, trusting relationship with and who can provide 1:1 support tailored to his individual needs.
He would like support to develop his communication and social skills while out in the community. He loves being outdoors and has a keen interest in exploring the world around him. His interests include listening to music, playing with balls, watching fans, observing how the wind moves through the leaves on trees, and spending time at the beach and around water.
A key part of the role will be supporting him to access and enjoy activities within his local community and helping him to build confidence and relationships with others. He has been developing his independence skills and would benefit from support with activities such as shopping and going out to cafés or restaurants to enjoy a drink.
The role will also include providing personal care, carried out with dignity, respect and sensitivity, in line with his needs.

Experience of supporting individuals with autism, epilepsy or additional needs is essential, additional/update training and guidance can be provided. A genuine interest in understanding and supporting his needs is most important.
Some knowledge or personal experience of working with young people with special educational needs is essential. The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.

Good rate of pay at £13.45 per hour.
10 hours per week are available, although this is very flexible. These will mostly be required at weekends and during school holidays.
