Swansea Bay University Health Board is seeking a highly motivated individual to take up the post of Head of Imaging with Non-Ionising Radiation Physics. You will possess strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of the science behind MRI, as well as a proven track record of success in managing complex MRI physics projects and driving research and development. Main duties of the job

As a Consultant Clinical Scientist, you will be providing leadership for and managing a scientific service. The section has significant SLA income from across Wales for which the postholder has budgetary management. You will be responsible for overseeing the development of the service and implementation of scientific solutions to enhance healthcare delivery mainly in the field of MRI Physics but with additional responsibilities around scientific support for clinical ultrasound and scientific advice around compliance with the Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations. Your excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills will be essential for working with a range of medical, clinical and non-clinical members of staff, industry representatives and professional groups. You will be expected to present balanced and succinct information across the organisation up to executive level

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Imaging with Non-Ionising Radiation Physics is the newest section in the wider department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering (MPCE) and you will be a key member of the management team, working alongside the other Consultant Scientists in Medical Physics and Engineering disciplines to promote and deliver the objectives of the department for the benefit of our patients. The department is committed to advancing knowledge and implementing novel techniques and technologies and you will join our other services by bringing a highly scientific approach which will entail close collaboration with universities and encouraging staff to engage in research and innovation including presenting at scientific meetings and publishing in peer reviewed journals.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. MSc in Medical Radiation Physics
2. PhD or equivalent evidence of research training or experience
3. Registration on the AHCS Higher Specialist Scientist Register (HSSR) in Imaging Physics
4. Substantial experience at a senior scientific level across all areas of MRI physics.
5. Significant previous experience acting as an expert in the field.

7. Able to write and present scientific papers at national and international conferences
8. Able to explain issues to patients and the public in a confident and clear way.
9. Able to deliver teaching and training on complex subjects at masters and doctorate level
10. Able to train groups of other professional staff including consultant medical staff.

Desirable criteria

11. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
