Job Summary
NEMS have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our team. The Healthcare Assistant performs the first assessment for walk-in patients and is responsible (with support) for assessing patient safety to wait. The role requires completion of an extended competency, including red flag analysis and escalation requirements.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide clinical support and assist other team members to ensure a high standard of patient care.
* Work under the supervision of a clinician and in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols.
* Perform basic vital observations and undertake basic housekeeping duties as directed by the clinician in charge.
* Be flexible with shift patterns and service needs, which may involve working in different areas or cross-site working.
* Record and monitor baseline observations (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood oxygen saturations, blood pressure, weight, urinalysis, blood glucose, peak flow, ECG recording, venepuncture).
* Act as first point of contact with patients and/or their carer, maintaining oversight of the waiting room.
* Liaise with clinicians on prioritisation of patients using appropriate early warning scores (e.g., PEWS, NEWS2) and escalate concerns to a registered healthcare professional when needed.
* Recognise changes in patient observations/condition and report them to the nurse in charge or appropriate clinician.
* Assist with patient treatment including dressings, chaperone, and assistance during medical emergencies.
* Feedback, report and escalate patient condition and welfare, including safeguarding, to the appropriate clinician.

* Essential: GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
* Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
Experience
* Essential: Minimum of two years experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a clinical setting with Primary Care or Urgent Care experience.
