Job Summary
This is a full‑time post for a Consultant Cardiologist with sub‑specialty interest in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). It is designed to meet the increasing demand on our local service due to a workforce gap. Applicants must have training and experience in PCI as well as a wide range of experience in general cardiology. The successful applicant will join 11 full‑time and one part‑time cardiology consultants in the Trust and will work alongside four existing Consultant colleagues in delivering our PCI service.
Key Responsibilities
* Work with colleagues at both sites to support the service.
* Deliver cardiology inpatient care on the 1:11 Consultant of the Week (COW) model at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
* During COW weeks, work on cardiology ward 6C and conduct ward‑rounds in the morning; provide a focal point for cardiology‑related queries to CCU, AMU and GPs in the afternoon.
* During non‑COW weeks, perform cath‑lab/PCI sessions, provide CCU ward‑rounds (no more than one morning per week), run OP clinics, attend weekly PCI MDT and sub‑specialty sessions, and allocate dedicated time for admin and SPA.
* Participate in a 1:11 on‑call out‑of‑hours rota for Cardiology, with no commitment to general medicine on‑call.
* Develop and pursue one’s own sub‑specialty interest where appropriate.
Candidate Requirements
* Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of admission to the Register for trainees in a UK training programme.
* All other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee.
* Applicants must continue to hold a License to Practice.
* Evidence of competency in PCI and general cardiology is required.
Working Hours and Pattern
The role is full‑time, providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). Applicants wishing to work part‑time are also encouraged to apply; job plans will be adjusted accordingly and negotiated with the appointee.
