Role Overview
As a Principal Engineer – Mechanical Services, you are expected to have a strong track record in one or multiple sectors that BakerHicks operates in. You will be a Chartered (or working towards) Mechanical Building Services Engineer with experience managing medium-sized projects or packages on large projects. You’ll lead and develop a team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver high-quality output and support the Scotland building services team. Client care and repeat business are crucial, so developing and nurturing client relationships is essential.
Key Purpose
* Design and specify all aspects of Mechanical Services according to current standards and project requirements.
* Manage Mechanical Services involvement in projects, including time, cost, quality, resources, client relationships, and delivery.
* Monitor and ensure quality and compliance within local teams and projects.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsibilities involve executing engineering design and consultancy, producing design deliverables, conducting site surveys, liaising with clients and teams, managing projects, and ensuring progress. Accountabilities include ensuring the correct and thorough completion of tasks, meeting prerequisites, and delegating work appropriately.
Responsibilities
* Provide engineering design and consultancy services under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
* Produce design documents, conduct site surveys, manage construction duties, liaise with clients and teams, and manage project costs and progress.
* Check calculations and drawings to ensure quality, compliance, and customer requirements.
* Assist in preparing enquiry plans, tenders, fee estimates, scopes of work, and change controls.
* Monitor project budgets and deliver commercial objectives, including invoicing and cost reporting.
Accountabilities
* Create a team environment for development and professional growth.
* Ensure team compliance with quality management and best practices.
* Manage staff in producing calculations, design deliverables, site surveys, client liaison, and project management tasks.
Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications
* Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (or working towards).
* Significant project delivery experience in at least one sector BakerHicks operates in.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Ability to develop long-term stakeholder relationships.
* Outstanding design and technical detailing skills.
* Expertise in Mechanical Building Services systems, including HVAC and Public Health.
* Experience with Navisworks, NBS Create / Chorus.
* Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects across sectors.
