Job Description – Technical Manager
We're looking for an experienced Technical Manager to join our team. The role will include but not be limited to:
* Consulting with Client, Suppliers and Contractors, in a professional manner
* Attendance of site meetings and Client meetings throughout the UK, and abroad if required
* Review of systems, products, and innovative technologies as they become available or as required
* Refrigeration design engineering and support to the Company's Project Management Team
* Attend site, or investigate via remote access, as required to support the K2 PM team and external Contractors in identifying the cause of persistent faults, or for specific monitoring activities
* Research existing and forthcoming legislation to ensure K2 and its Clients remain compliant
* As appropriate, issue technical bulletins to the internal team to keep them up to date with specification changes, legislation changes or product specific support
* Prepare and update specifications for Client approval – both for generic installation specification and site-specific projects where required
* Attend fortnightly and quarterly Client-led Consultant's meetings for discussions on existing project progress and future projects (mostly Teams video meetings).
Take the lead role of the Distribution Centre installation projects. Primary tasks in this respect:
* Awareness of CDM and Designer responsibilities
* Consulting with Client and Design Teams at pre-determined design team meetings through the design stages to ensure appropriate integration of the refrigeration systems with the building design and operation
* Review and reporting on all practical options for cooling systems based on total life cycle cost analysis
* Investigation and reporting on energy saving / carbon saving concepts including heat recovery, integration with on site power generation, optimising power use (thermal storage, demand side response). Investigation of available and future technologies (adiabatic systems, pressure exchanger, ejectors, compressor technology, etc)
* Preparing performance-based specifications to enable tendering
* Provide information to enable preparation of tender drawings
* Support to the QS in assessing tender returns on a technical basis (compliance with spec, compliance with regulations), completing calculations to determine life cycle costs
* If required, assist the Construction Manager with developing the installation programme
* Monitor the installations with scheduled site inspections to ensure compliance with specification and general good practice
* Assist the construction team with snagging and ensuring the Contractor completes appropriate testing, commissioning, and preparation of completion documentation
* Provide the client with feedback on Contractor performance and 'lessons learned' to improve the next project
* Additional responsibilities as required to develop new work streams support the Directors in the growth of the business
