Enfield, with a population of approximately 2,536, located in Historic Southern Halifax County, is seeking a Police Chief. The successful candidate will ensure the department is staffed, equipped, and trained to prevent and suppress crime. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and directing all police operations.
Ideal candidates will possess excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, and management skills. They should have knowledge of laws, ordinances, and legal processes, along with strong skills in employee and community relations, budgeting, and fiscal control techniques. The ability to plan, direct, and supervise personnel, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships, is essential.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in police science, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field, along with several years of experience in a police managerial role. Certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards is required. Proficiency in operating a computer terminal and working with data and figures is also necessary.
