Local Care Direct is a non‑profit Social Enterprise operating across 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to provide various primary and urgent health care services across West Yorkshire.

We are looking for a Clinical Support Worker

To be part of the health care team providing high quality and forward‑thinking nursing care to meet the holistic health care needs of the practice population

Job responsibilities

The clinical support worker works under the direct supervision of the minor injuries nurse practitioners and is accountable to the Lead Nurse for their actions in undertaking delegated work. This is guided by standard procedures and requires a degree of initiative. The clinical support worker also provides support for other members of the UTC care team.

Undertakes agreed procedures to include: wound care, including wound closure application of plaster of Paris casts to limb injuries and general dressing and bandaging of minor injuries, 12 lead ECG placement.

Supporting patients who are anxious and or distressed.

Assists patients and where appropriate encourages self‑care and self‑management of injuries through health education.

Refers to other members of the health care team as appropriate.

Works within all relevant practice policies and procedures e.g. health and safety at work.

Responsible for order and regulation of clinical supplies and upkeep of equipment within the department. Actively contributes and promotes high standards for infection control in the clinical area.

Contributes in the creation of confidential electronic patient records.

Health promotion

Encourages and supports individuals, families and groups to address issues which affect their health and social well‑being.

Represents the interests of individuals and families when they are notable to do so themselves.

Develops and maintains the health promotion material within the unit including displays for the waiting room.

Manage and lead

Contributes to the development, monitoring and evaluation of care delivered by the health care team.

Promotes effective communication and relationships within the team.

Works collaboratively as a team member to achieve the objectives of the Urgent care contract and aspirations of the team.

Partakes in clinical supervision for own development.

Actively participates in Team meetings.

Develops own knowledge and practice to meet objectives/changes in service.

Manage and use information

Makes effective use of the IT system by ensuring the consistent and accurate entering of data and use of Read codes.

Makes recommendations to raise standards of practice and service delivery.

Identifies and supports the management of safeguarding of adults, children, young people.

Research and development

Contributes to practice/team audit/research activity as required.

The mainduties and responsibilities shown above are not exhaustive but should merely be regarded as a guide. * Demonstrates self awareness, i.e. strengths and weaknesses, personal qualities and skills
* Able to communicate routine information that requires tact and persuasive skills, or where there may be barriers to understanding
* Able to make judgements where there is more than a straightforward choice of options, e.g. options for treatment for wound care - Training will be given as needed
* Able to organise own time and workload, and cope with occasional last‑minute changes
* Willingness to undergo education/ training for both practice and service needs
* Willingness to work towards professional and performance objectives - appraisal
* Demonstrates motivation, reliability and commitment to team working and the development of others
* Flexibility, commitment and adaptability
* Demonstrates an ability to value the opinions of others
* Fitness to do the job
* Ability to work within manual‑handing policy
* Ability to handle simple medical equipment and undertake clinical procedures (dexterity and manipulation skills)
* Frequent requirement for light physical effort for short periods
* Must either be Hepatitis B immune or be willing to undergo an immunisation course
* Concentration required daily, e.g. wound closure
* Ability to deal with occasional exposure to distressing circumstances or emotional events
* Ability to cope with occasional exposure to aggressive behaviour


Qualifications

* Willing to work towards the National Vocational Qualification level 3 for Health Care Workers
