The post is a one year fixed term 0.5 WTE secondment position for a Research Associate working predominantly in delivery of research within the Limb Reconstruction Orthopaedics department at Barts Health NHS Trust.
The proposed role will be mainly based on collation of Stryker HLRF circular frame data from the Limb Reconstruction team at the Royal London Hospital. A report will be provided to the Principal investigator, Mr K Patel, Orthopaedic Limb Reconstruction Consultant at the Royal London Hospital. Once agreed, this data will then be published and disseminated through orthopaedic networks and conferences.
The post-holder will ensure there are systems in place for accurate and timely research project notification and approval and that all such projects meet all the necessary research governance and regulatory requirements required for the Trust. The post holder will collaborate with key personnel to conduct in-house completion of audits, public and patient inclusion and engagement activities and research protocol development. The post holder will work with and provide guidance to colleagues working in a similar capacity. The post holder will aim to develop relationships with academic institutions, industry and other specialties to develop research protocols and assist in the delivery at a Trust level.
The position will include research delivery team training and will support relevant clinical trials.
Main duties of the job
Coordinates and conducts in-house clinical trials and audit. To evaluate findings, write reports, liaise and hold meetings with external stakeholders and publish findings. To be accountable for the documentation of audit/trial data according to International Conference of Harmonisation (ICH)/Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and European Union (EU) directive guidelines. Functions in a collaborative practice role within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide expertise in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical research protocols. Responsible for the development, establishment and implementation of Research department policies relating to the various R&D information management systems, including both administrative and IT systems. Responsible for the development of Research Office SOPs appropriate to the role. Liaises with external groups to identify studies and opportunities to develop research protocols to deliver at the three sites. Disseminates protocol information and research results to health care professionals by one-to-one teaching, written information and/or in-service education classes. Supports the orthopaedic research team with recruitment to clinical trials where appropriate to the role. Demonstrates autonomy as well as the ability to collaborate within the Orthopaedic team in identifying and meeting the needs of the patient and his/her significant others during various stages of the healthcare continuum.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Physiotherapist / Occupational therapist / Nurse
2. Post-registration experience and in base specialty
3. Fulfils KSF outline for physiotherapist (Band 7)
4. Basic statistical and data management knowledge
5. Good Clinical Practice certification
6. Research experience within Orthopaedics / musculoskeletal with demonstrable experience of recruiting to portfolio based trials, preferably in Orthopaedics
Desirable criteria
7. To have contributed to written research papers / abstracts or to have acted as a primary author on at least one academic article
8. Possession of or working toward master’s degree
