Your new role
As a Mechanical Shift Technician, you will work as part of a dedicated Engineering team, supporting the safe and efficient operation of assets within a heavy engineering environment. This role involves delivering both planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of mechanical equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and continued operational performance.Key responsibilities include:
1. Carrying out maintenance, repairs and modifications on heavy plant and mechanical equipment
2. Diagnosing faults and resolving breakdowns using structured fault‑finding techniques
3. Working closely with operational teams to prioritise and plan maintenance works
4. Supporting wider engineering activities including project work, quality systems and health & safety initiatives
5. Ensuring all work is documented correctly andpleted in line with Health & Safety legislation and Permit to Work systems
The role operates on a distinctive 3 days on / 3 days off, followed by 3 nights on / 3 nights off shift pattern, offering extended rest periods and an excellent work–life balance.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you will need:
6. A time‑served mechanical apprenticeship
7. NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
8. A HNC in Mechanical Engineering, or the willingness to be put forward for HNC training
9. Proven experience working in a heavy engineering or industrial environment
10. Strong hands‑on experience with machinery such as conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics and rotating equipment
11. The ability to fault find, problem solve and use diagnostic equipment effectively
12. A knowledge of maintaining rotating equipment
13. A sound understanding of Permit to Work systems and incident reporting
14. Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance strategies such as RCM, PM, CBM and TPM (advantageous)
15. A full, valid UK driving licence
