CONTRACT TYPE: 12 Month Fixed-term Contract, Full-time / Attachment
LOCATION: Elstree Centre, Borehamwood
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £25500 - £28681 + London Weighting at £5319 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To help shape the heart of EastEnders, the script team are on the lookout for a new Assistant Script Editor. The successful candidate will ensure every twist, turn, and cliffhanger stays true to character and story. With a sharp editorial eye and a passion for drama, you’ll weave continuity through scripts, support the editorial team with continuity trails/trackers and provide script editing cover if and when required.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & IMPACT
* Ensure consistency across episodes by tracking storylines, character development, and established facts, advising Script Editors on any discrepancies.
* Read and assess scripts, providing clear, constructive continuity notes to support the development of high-quality drama.
* Assist the Script Producer and Script Editors with day-to-day editorial tasks, helping to maintain the creative vision and tone of the show.
* Maintain efficient office systems, manage documentation, and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
* Apply knowledge of copyright, Writers Guild agreements, and legal considerations to ensure compliance throughout the script development process.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* At least one year’s professional broadcast experience as an Assistant Script Editor, Researcher or Script Coordinator in Scripted Drama
* Demonstrable experience of script reading and analysis, and evidence of where you have provided clear, constructive editorial feedback that influenced the direction of a script.
* Evidenced knowledge of dramatic structure, character development, and continuity, as well as great attention to detail, especially when it comes to inconsistencies and a strong sense of character and tone alignment.
* Experience maintaining office systems and handling confidential information with discretion.
* Demonstrable understanding of copyright law, Writers Guild agreements, contracts and the legal implications of the production process
* A tangible and genuine passion for Scripted Drama, especially EastEnders
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
* Proficiency in tools like Final Draft, Celtx, or BBC-specific systems is desirable.
