Data/Artificial Intelligence Engineer (KTP Associate)
Co-ordinate and undertake the day-to-day development and deployment of the AI-driven triaging and support system, under the supervision of the Business and Knowledge Base Supervisors and the project steering group.
Work closely with the Psychology Associate to integrate clinical insights and user requirements into the AI system, ensuring alignment with mental health professionals’ needs.
Lead on project governance, including ethical approval, data security, and compliance with AI transparency, fairness, and bias mitigation standards.
Collect, preprocess, and analyse data, ensuring quality, validity, and compliance with mental health sector data protection regulations.
Develop, fine-tune, and optimise a LLM such as Llama 2 and related NLP models for referral triaging, incorporating psychology-driven insights to improve system decision-making.
Collaborate with the Psychology Associate and SAMH senior stakeholders to define evaluation metrics, validate model outputs, and refine AI recommendations based on real-world case scenarios.
Work with senior stakeholders to deploy and integrate the AI system within SAMH’s operational workflow, ensuring a seamless and sustainable implementation that meets both technical and clinical needs.
Evaluate system performance in collaboration with the Psychology Associate, applying AI validation metrics, user testing, and stakeholder feedback to iteratively improve functionality and clinical relevance.
Manage and undertake reporting to the steering group, funders, and key stakeholders, ensuring timely submission of project deliverables and reports in required formats.
Facilitate effective communication between computing and psychology disciplines, ensuring that AI solutions are explainable, interpretable, and trusted by both the public and mental health practitioners.
Support knowledge transfer by delivering training and guidance to SAMH staff on AI system usage, data evaluation and long-term sustainability.
Represent the project at internal and external events, including conferences, stakeholder meetings, and knowledge exchange initiatives.
To embed capability in clinical oversight principles and procedures in digital mental health tools, AI tool development and improvement, and data analytics for SAMH, to develop a psychologically-informed, artificial-intelligence driven service user gateway to support SAMH’s place-based and online mental health services.
