Job Summary
We are looking for a motivated Band 6 NMC registered adult or children’s nurse to work in our fast‑paced but patient‑focused environment. You will be developing new skills and knowledge around specialised cancer treatments and will care for haematology‑oncology patients and teenage and young adult (TYA) patients with cancers.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will work closely with the Senior Sister in managing the Palatine Ward, caring primarily for adults with haematological malignancies and for TYAs with solid tumours and haematological malignancies. Responsibilities include providing appropriate cover when the Senior Sister is absent, and providing leadership within the department.
About Us
The Palatine Ward is a 31‑bedded unit with en‑suite side rooms, specialist HEPA side rooms for immunocompromised patients, and a dedicated room for radioiodine radiotherapy. We offer evidence‑based specialist treatments, are JACIE accredited, and regularly perform stem cell transplants and CAR T‑cell therapy. The Clinical Practice Facilitator team supports your education and development.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical
* Assess patient and family needs, delivering client‑centred care.
* Ensure accurate documentation of care.
* Administer specialised treatments (chemotherapy, transplants, blood products).
* Provide educational information to patients and families.
* Apply relevant research outcomes to nursing care.
* Evaluate nursing care and inform senior staff of changing needs.
* Maintain liaison with other wards, trusts, and community services.

* Update the off‑duty roster using the e‑rostering system.
* Foster a supportive environment and maintain staff morale.
* Act as preceptor/mentor to new staff and trainees.
* Participate in clinical audit and confidence in audit work.
* Apply Health and Safety at Work Act responsibilities and promote a safe culture.
* Support change initiatives and professional accountability.
* Assist in recruitment and retention of staff.
* Conduct risk assessments and complete Incident Report Forms.
* Handle complaints and incident reporting promptly.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse (RGN) / Registered Specialist Children's Nurse (RSCN)
* Degree or Diploma in Nursing Studies
Desirable Qualifications
* Key Skills for Managers, e.g., Management of Attendance
* Preparation for mentorship programmes
Essential Experience
* Experience as Band 5
* Interest in oncology/haematology
* Leadership experience or similar
