About the role

To take full ownership of the design, operation, and continuous development of HIL rigs supporting motorsport and Advanced Engineering battery systems and control architectures.


What you will do

* Design and deliver robust and reliable electronic hardware designs.
* Physical testing and prototype evaluation of electronic hardware.
* Maintain and support de-bug activities for current powertrain, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
* Design and simulate circuits; supervise PCB layout; write verification plans and execute bench tests.
* Debug bringup issues; capture results and corrective actions.
* Own board level architecture, schematics, layout constraints, and bringup plans; coordinate firmware interfaces.
* Drive component selection, derating analyses, thermal solutions, and regulatory compliance approach.
* Plan EVT/DVT/PVT; define board test strategy and fixtures; interact with CMs/EMS partners.
* Collaborate with electrical engineers and other departments ensuring an optimised and joint design approach is taken.
* Experience developing driver and actuator control circuits, including high-side/low-side and PWM drivers.
* Support on testing and troubleshooting (Rig and Track) where relevant.
* Hands-on experience with lab validation, instrumentation, and debugging of electronic hardware.
* Support research and development for future hardware designs.
* Support and mentor junior engineers within the group.
* Assist in Identifying ways to improve the department and personnel performance.


About you

* Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechatronic, or Systems Engineering or significant industry experience.
* Proven experience designing BMS hardware, cell monitoring electronics, or other safety-critical mixed-signal control systems.
* Proficient in using PCB design software such as the Cadence tool chain, Altium Designer, Zuken, or Mentor Graphics.
* Experience designing high-voltage PCBs with appropriate creepage and clearance, insulation coordination, and safety isolation practices.
* Strong knowledge of microcontrollers and processors, cell monitoring ICs, and communication interfaces (ISO-SPI, SPI, I²C, CAN, UART).
* Familiarity with CAN bus hardware design, termination strategies, and EMI mitigation.
* Understanding of EMC compliance, grounding strategies, and transient protection.
* Knowledge of functional safety principles, DFMEA, and hardware verification standards.
* Experience in delivering end to end projects, facilitating, and overseeing design reviews and project timing.
* Practical experience and soldering skills essential.
* Experience in the specialist automotive or motorsport industry
* Complete tasks given within agreed time frames.
* To follow and actively enforce the company’s health and Safety and HV policies.
* Experience of Electric Vehicles – HV charging, HV battery and HV powertrain systems, preferred.
