Job Title: Fire Suppression Design Engineer
Location: Remote working – Occasional travel to Aberdeen / London

Rate: £50.00 - £60.00 per hour Outside IR35
Our client, an established engineering consultancy, require an experienced Fire Suppression Design Engineer to join their multi-disciplined team working on a large-scale industrial power generation project.
What the role of the Fire Suppression Design Engineer entails:
* Requirements validation and specification, based on gas turbine installation and interface with existing fire suppression systems, of Oil mist detection, gaseous fuel detection and fire detection system for the installation
* Conduct any Risks & Hazards assessment to support design and specifications
* Support technical specification and selection of sensors and systems for gaseous fuel detection, oil mist detection and fire detection across
* Ensure designs comply with applicable international and regional safety standards and codes (e.g., NFPA, IEC, ISO, ATEX).
* Ensure all supplied safety sensors come with test and compliance certification
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety systems into enclosure and with existing systems
* Oversee installation and commissioning of safety systems, ensuring operational readiness.
* Develop and execute test protocols to validate system performance and compliance.
* Provide technical guidance and support during audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
What experience you need to be the successful Fire Suppression Design Engineer:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Instrumentation, others)
* Minimum 8+ years of experience in designing and implementing safety systems such as fuel gas detection, oil mist detection and fire detection in a gas turbine power plant or related domain
* Proven expertise in gas detection technologies (e.g., infrared, catalytic bead, electrochemical sensors).
* Strong background in fire detection and suppression systems (e.g., CO₂, FM-200, NOVEC 1230, water mist).
* In-depth knowledge of safety codes and standards applicable to fuel systems and turbine environments.
* Experience in hazard identification, HAZOP, and risk mitigation.
* Hands-on experience in system testing and validation.
* Experience in supplier vetting and engagement for safety system components.
* Excellent documentation and communication skills.
