Established over 70 years ago.my clients have expertise across many different sectors and are widely recognised for their work in education, healthcare and retail projects. As a multidisciplinary consultancy, they are often appointed as both the civil and structural engineer, ensuring a joined-up and collaborative approach.

They help clients to build safe, efficient, cost-effective and sustainable environments,their people are passionate about good engineering and use the latest design techniques and sustainable materials to create innovative and cost-effective designs.

Though long established,they move with the times and as well as utilising the latest cutting edge software they ensure people come first, and we are proud to recently have changed the business to an Employee Owned Trust.

Projects range from private homes and housing developments to retail parks, town centre regenerations, and major hospital redevelopments, temporary, new and historic structures, including some of the UK’s most important old buildings.

They are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and driven graduate structural engineer who is keen to develop their career who will be responsible for assisting others with design work on projects and tasks, with moderate supervision, to ensure the tasks are delivered as briefed. This includes communicating with the client, other consultants and colleagues in the delivery of projects whilst maintaining a positive client relationship. As part of this role you will have a commitment to self-development and the improvement of your technical skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities of the Role

Execute and coordinate work as directed by senior staff

Produce design calculations

Assist with the preparation of sketch plans, working drawings, specifications and reports

Assist with planning site investigation works

Assist with preparing feasibility studies and providing design advice

Assist with the development and use of computer-based systems to improve efficiency

Undertake site inspection and attend site meetings

Produce designs, assessments and calculations in accordance with quality procedures

Liaise effectively with clients, other design team members and third parties

Understand and adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures

Adopt ‘best practice’

Work within the given programme and cost constraints

Proactive in self-development

Coordinate design to the brief.

Produces and/or amends information in accordance with the Project SMP (standard method and procedure). Ensures graphical models are spatially coordinated (clash avoidance); escalates any issues to the Information Manager.

Responsible for content creation and ongoing ownership of the content.

Responsible for output production.

Submits information for approval in accordance with the Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP).

Ensures all elements of the Information Model are fully coordinated

Key Skills

Essential

University degree in civil or structural engineering

Good understanding of engineering principles

Good interpersonal skills

Good communication skills

Proactive approach to work

Commitment to continual improvement at a personal and company level

Good understanding of construction procedures

Able to produce hand calculations and sketches of structural elements

Ability to work within the ISO 19650 environment and associated processes

Preferable

Knowledge of design software and its limitations

Knowledge of AutoCAD

Key Competencies

Technical

Conversant in designing to British Standards/Eurocodes

Conversant in designing structures in concrete, steelwork, timber and masonry

Able to use computer design software packages

Understanding of CDM regulations and the responsibilities of a designer

Communication

Good written and verbal communication skills Able to produce accurate and clear sketches

Relationship building

Able to work effectively within and across teams and with colleagues
