The Role UKAEA is looking for a talented Electronic Design Engineer to bring their expertise to a range of innovative projects and programmes at UKAEA. In this role, you will provide electronic engineering expertise across UKAEA projects and programmes. You will take a proactive approach to the design, development, construction, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electronic cards, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and control and instrumentation systems. Key Accountabilities: Lead and deliver small to medium work packages and technical studies, working with engineers, technicians, and contractors to design, install, commission, and maintain electronic systems in line with UKAEA technical controls and procedures. Capture requirements, develop designs, produce schematics and PCB layouts, and lead design reviews using appropriate EDA, modelling, and simulation tools such as Proteus, MATLAB, Simulink, PSIM, and LTSpice. Provide responsive on-plant technical support and expert advice across UKAEA programmes, including MAST-U, overseeing the build, test, evaluation, repair, and low-voltage testing of electronic modules, cards, and sub-assemblies. Develop firmware and embedded software for FPGAs, microcontrollers, and related systems, ensuring systems are commissioned, tested, and maintained to high safety, quality, and performance standards. Prepare work control documentation and supervise technical staff, ensuring all activities comply with UKAEA safety, quality assurance, and technical procedures, while undertaking additional duties as required by management.
