About the role
Our shift leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 an hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location. Tesco’s policy offers a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours a week, with the opportunity to work fewer hours (minimum 12).

Responsibilities
* Work in a fast‑paced retail environment and manage the team to deliver a clean and well‑stocked store.
* Co‑ordinate duty shifts and ensure the store meets customer expectations.
* Listen to customers, ensuring they leave with what they came for.
* Coach and give feedback to colleagues, and look for ways to improve service.
* Maintain store safety and ensure it is a safe place to work and shop.
* Analyse store performance, assist managers and implement actions to improve operations.
* Lead by example and set a positive tone for the team.
Key Responsibilities
* Co‑ordinate the store team to deliver an easy, fuss‑free shopping experience.
* Support colleagues, ensuring daily priorities are met and breaks are taken.
* Open, close and complete duty cover, making safety‑first decisions.
* Serve as the go‑to person for day‑to‑day queries in the manager’s absence.
* Keep the store clean, tidy and well‑presented.
* Support managers with seasonal, community and charity events.
* Contribute to a great team atmosphere and celebrate successful service.
* Maintain health and safety routines and procedures.
Requirements
* Age 18 or older (except for positions requiring early morning or late evening hours).
* Excellent customer service delivering a silver‑level experience.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to keep the team informed.
* Comfortable leading the store in the manager’s absence.
* Good decision‑making skills and flexibility to handle change.
* Motivational leadership and a passion for continuous improvement.
