Senior User Researcher - 6-month FTC (MAT Cover) role at Dambuster Studios.
Originally founded in 1999 as Free Radical Design, we pursue passion, quality, and teamwork within a diverse and inclusive culture. The Senior User Researcher will join the Games Lab team on a 6-month FTC covering parental leave and will help shape player experiences through user-centred research.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for planning and leading multiple/complex research projects
* Aligns research activities with broader plans
* Advise management on the best course of action for each project (methodologies, timeline, etc.)
* Support UR Director and development teams in establishing a research roadmap for all projects
* Define focus for each test with development teams and the user research team
* Design and conduct user research studies to drive customer-centric experiences in games in development
* Define research methodologies that provide actionable consumer insights
* Participate in screening, recruiting, and managing participants before and after each test
* Participate in lab maintenance before each test
* Monitor participants during user tests
* Write thorough analyses of participant behaviour and viewpoints based on surveys and interviews
* Coach juniors to improve best practices
Requirements
* A minimum of 5 years of experience in user research in the video games industry (mandatory)
* Bachelor or Master’s Degree in psychology, ethnography, marketing research, information science, cognitive science, human-computer interaction, computer science or related field
* A clear understanding of game development processes (mandatory)
* An understanding of the dynamic between studios and publishers (nice to have)
* Able to clearly identify issues with tested products and prioritise those issues through reporting
* Strong communication skills including:
* Presentation writing and delivery skills
* Challenging stakeholders regarding feasibility and best practices
* Comfortable with qualitative research tools like interviews, survey development, usability testing, etc.
* Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel and PowerPoint)
* Resourceful, quick to learn, and willing to improve games through user research
* Adaptable, action-oriented and with keen attention to detail
* Strong collaborator, empathy and people skills
* Passion for video games
