We're looking for a dynamic Head of Estimating to lead our national estimating function and drive consistency, innovation, and commercial excellence across a diverse range of engineering and hard FM service projects. About the Role As our Head of Estimating, you will play a pivotal leadership role, overseeing a team of technical estimators responsible for site visits, asset tagging, condition reporting, and the production of detailed technical quotations. Reporting directly to the Director of Quality, you'll ensure the accurate and competitive delivery of bids and cost plans while championing high standards and continuous improvement. ️ Key Responsibilities Lead and develop a high-performing, national estimating team. Provide mentoring, training, and performance management to drive team success. Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and innovation. Oversee the preparation and submission of high-quality, commercially viable estimates and bids. Analyse tender documentation, perform quantity take-offs, and apply first-principles estimating. Independently review and challenge pricing submissions to ensure accuracy and competitiveness. Collaborate with procurement to obtain market-competitive quotes and identify cost-saving opportunities. Develop and align bid strategies with operational and project requirements. Participate in bid reviews, handovers, and post-bid lessons learned. Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors. Contribute to contract negotiations and manage commercial risk. Lead feedback processes with suppliers and strengthen the supply chain. Drive improvements in estimating tools, templates, and systems, including cost library development. Ensure compliance with company policies, H&S regulations, and management systems. Support ongoing refinement of internal estimating and procurement processes. Qualifications & Experience Proven experience in a senior estimating role within hard FM, mechanical, or building engineering sectors. Strong technical understanding of asset lifecycle, condition reporting, and surveying. Demonstrated success in delivering multidisciplinary infrastructure tenders. Proficient in estimating software, cost planning tools, and Microsoft Office. Experience working with national frameworks and complex, large-scale projects. Skills & Attributes Strong leadership and coaching capabilities. Commercially astute with strategic thinking and financial insight. Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills. Analytical and detail-oriented with a keen eye for risk and opportunity. Competent in interpreting technical drawings and specifications. Highly organised with the ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities. Desirable Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management.
