An industry leader in high-precision instrumentation is seeking an experienced and hands-on Electronics Design Engineer to join its innovative, multi-disciplinary engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the complete design and development of complex electronic systems, supporting the creation of cutting-edge technology solutions used across critical industries.
This is a key engineering role involving hands-on PCB design, analogue/digital electronics development, and close interaction with firmware, software, and mechanical design teams throughout the entire product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the end-to-end design of complex, multi-layer PCBs, with proficiency in analogue and digital circuit design, using Cadence OrCAD and Allegro PCB Editor.
* Design bespoke, high-precision test and machine probing cabling using DraftSight or AutoCAD, supporting signal ranges from microvolts to 15kV and femtoamps to 100A.
* Create and manage engineering documentation including BOMs, ECOs, and build instructions, ensuring traceability and adherence to ISO-compliant processes.
* Develop custom circuit solutions to meet specific customer requirements while leveraging a modular platform architecture.
* Conduct fault diagnosis and remediation on legacy products, contributing to continuous product improvement.
* Maintain product compliance with CE, EMC, and UL standards, and manage equipment certification for EU conformity.
* Collaborate on R&D initiatives, from proof of concept to production-ready designs, supporting innovation and time-to-market goals.
* Support production teams with debugging, quality control, and test fixture development, ensuring robust and scalable manufacturing.
* Work closely with firmware/software engineers, integrating embedded microcontroller-based systems and developing or supporting firmware in C/C++.
* Liaise with sales and application engineers to translate customer specifications into viable, cost-effective electrical designs.
* Contribute to internal risk assessments, ensuring health & safety and electrical regulation compliance.
Qualifications
* Degree-qualified in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
* Strong background in analogue/digital design, including high-speed digital circuitry and mixed-signal environments.
* Experience with microprocessor/microcontroller-based systems, including low-level firmware development (C/C++).
* Familiar with stepper motor drive design and power supply topologies.
* Hands‑on experience with lab test equipment (e.g., Keithley, Tektronix, Keysight).
* Proven ability to produce high-quality technical documentation.
* Experience in semiconductor, precision instrumentation, or RF-aware hardware environments.
* Understanding of EMC design principles, signal integrity, and PCB layout for noise reduction.
* Familiarity with CE, UL certification, and regulatory compliance standards.
Key Attributes
* Methodical and highly organised with a practical, solutions-driven mindset.
* Strong team collaborator with clear, confident communication skills.
* Self-motivated and adaptable, able to manage multiple priorities.
* Creative, resourceful, and able to take initiative when resolving technical challenges.
This role offers the chance to work on complex, precision-engineered products in a collaborative and technically rich environment. Ideal for engineers with a passion for electronics and a desire to see their designs come to life from concept to deployment.
