North Lanarkshire is the largest local authority social landlord in Scotland with approximately 36, council houses. Within the Housing service there are four Locality offices covering Airdrie/Cumbernauld, Coatbridge/Kilsyth, Bellshill/Motherwell and Wishaw/Shotts with our Rents team located in Viewpark.

The post will be based in the Civic Centre, Motherwell and the post holder will assist in the operational service delivery of short-term prisoners (approximately 2 year sentences with non-statutory orders) as part of the SHORE requirements. The Prison Liaison Officer will play a crucial role in supporting multi-agency collaboration for short-term prisoners. This role is pivotal in identifying barriers to maintaining or securing suitable, settled accommodation and implementing actions to improve outcomes.

The postholder will attend prisons and courts with the aim of supporting good quality housing options advice and support for individuals to enable them to either maintain a home or source a home in advance of release. It is expected that the Housing Prison Liaison Officer will spend a proportion of their time within a prison/court/locality environment.

The postholder should have the ability to develop partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, including but not limited to justice and throughcare services, health services, employability services and housing providers is an essential function of this role.

Providing leadership and strategic direction for the wider Housing Service in relation to effective support for individuals transitioning from custody is also a core responsibility (SHORE), therefore the postholder should bring a proactive solution focused approach to supporting individuals and improving service outcomes.

Educated to SVQ Level 4 / HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline is essential, as is some experience working in a housing or customer service environment.Some knowledge of housing related legislation and practice is desirable. Excellent IT and communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as experience in report writing are also essential. In addition, you should have some experience of, and, be committed to customer care and be able to relate to people, particularly the most vulnerable in our communities who need our support.

You will require to be registered or eligible for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Due to the geographical location covered by this post, possession of a current full UK driving licence is essential and pool cars are available for use.

You will require to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member through Disclosure Scotland and obtain a satisfactory membership check prior to commencing in this role.

Work pattern:

35 hours per week - Monday - Thursday: 08:45am - 16:45pm (including a 55 minute unpaid break)

Friday: 08:45am - 16:15pm (including a 50 minute unpaid break)
