About the Role: Our client is seeking an experienced and committed Head Housekeeper to lead the housekeeping and laundry service within their care home. The successful candidate will ensure the home remains a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents, families, and visitors.
This is a hands-on leadership role, where youll be responsible for supervising a small team, maintaining Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards, and ensuring all resident rooms and communal spaces meet consistently high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Housekeeping & Infection Control:
Proactively monitor the cleanliness and presentation of the home, ensuring it always meets a high homely standard.
Work closely with the IPC Lead to implement best practices and keep accurate records.
Oversee daily and deep-cleaning schedules, and manage the quality of laundry services.
Ensure all resident rooms are fully prepared with toiletries, towels, and essentials; and that vacant rooms are always ready for marketing and occupation.
Monitor and order cleaning supplies in line with allocated budgets, and carry out regular stock checks.
Team Leadership & Management:
As part of our clients management team, lead by example and support a positive working culture.
Create housekeeping rotas, approve leave, and ensure the home is always appropriately staffed.
Conduct supervisions, observations, and mentor staff to improve performance and morale.
Support the Home Manager with recruitment and training of new team members.
Communication:
Foster strong communication within the housekeeping team and wider care home staff.
Take part in daily handovers, staff meetings, and the Supervision Process.
Uphold professionalism at all times, including when answering the phone or greeting visitors.
Training & Development:
Ensure your team maintains up-to-date training in key areas such as COSHH and Manual Handling.
Liaise with the Training Manager to support continuous development.
Commit to your own learning and growth within the role.
Health & Safety:
Promote and maintain a safe working environment in line with Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, and COSHH standards.
Report any safety hazards or faulty equipment promptly to the Home Manager.
Ensure safe storage and use of cleaning products, with all necessary documentation in place.
General:
Support our clients positive reputation in the local community through high standards and professionalism.
Maintain security, confidentiality, and the smooth day-to-day running of the home.
Be flexible and proactive in supporting the overall needs of the service.
About You: Previous experience in a Head Housekeeper or supervisory role, ideally within a care home or healthcare setting.
Strong knowledge of cleaning and infection control standards, with COSHH awareness.
A confident leader with excellent organisational and communication skills.
High attention to detail and a passion for maintaining a clean, homely environment.
Flexible, reliable, and able to manage priorities and delegate tasks effectively.
