We are excited to invite a talented and passionate Expert Lighting Artist to join our growing team based in Guildford, UK. This role involves collaborating with our global teams across the US, Australia, Canada, and the UK. Please note: This is not a remote role. It is a hybrid position based in our Guildford studio, offering a combination of in-studio and remote workdays. Permanent remote work is not available.
About the Role
Responsibilities:
* Create gameplay and in-game cinematic lighting based on Art Director’s guidance.
* Ensure lighting assets meet runtime and disk requirements.
* Identify and report potential production issues, communicating effectively with leads.
* Collaborate with Character, VFX, and Environment Art teams.
* Develop and optimize lighting pipelines and workflows.
* Stay current with industry lighting techniques and work with rendering engineers to improve engine capabilities.
* Create sky dome and cloud assets, and develop industry standards.
* Mentor other lighting artists and foster a creative, trusting, and excellent team environment.
Required Skills:
* Extensive experience in a lighting role within the gaming industry.
* Proficiency with Maya, Photoshop, and physically-based lighting techniques.
* Strong understanding of lighting fundamentals, color theory, and mood creation.
* Experience with Unreal, Unity, or proprietary engines, including PBR & HDR lighting.
* Knowledge of ray tracing/path tracing, and ability to utilize AI tools.
* Proven leadership and team inspiration skills.
Bonus Points:
* Scripting or programming experience.
* Houdini experience.
* Knowledge of photography principles and image correction techniques.
* Experience playing Call of Duty or similar FPS games.
