DevOps Engineer
* Type: Contract
* Working Pattern: Hybrid (10% on-site, 90% remote)
* Location: Oxfordshire
* Security Clearance: SC or DV
* Rate: Up to £500 per day inside IR35
Role Summary As a DevOps Engineer, you'll play a central role in delivering secure, scalable, and highly available digital services across government. You will be embedded within a multidisciplinary team to drive automation, build infrastructure as code (IaC), and enable rapid, reliable delivery from discovery through to live operation.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, build, and manage deployment pipelines and automation using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins.
* Implement services aligned with GDS standards.
* Define and maintain environments via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible).
* Collaborate in an Agile manner with developers, architects, and product and delivery teams to support continuous integration, secure builds, and frequent releases.
* Embed automation in all stages—build, test, deployment, infrastructure management—to drive efficiency and resilience.
* Promote DevOps best practices, share knowledge, and contribute to the broader digital and delivery community.
* Monitor, support, and troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment issues to ensure uptime and performance.
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
* Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and related IaC tools (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible).
* Hands-on experience building and managing services using Infrastructure as Code.
* Coding or scripting ability in languages such as Python, Go, Bash, JavaScript, or PowerShell.
* Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture.
* Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), automated testing, security-by-design, and Agile/DevOps collaborative workflows.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with monorepo tooling (NX, Turborepo) or PaaS platforms (Netlify, Vercel).
* Working knowledge of React or other front-end technologies.
* Experience in mentoring or growing capability within teams.
Security Clearance
