Haemoglobinopathy Clinical Nurse Specialist for adults, children and young people (joint adult and paediatric cross cover post)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and self‑motivated nurse with strong clinical leadership skills and expertise to join the Haemoglobinopathy (red cell) nursing team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. This role provides an excellent opportunity to focus your advanced nursing skills on direct patient care and service development.
Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of patients throughout their complex care journey. The team has a wide breadth of experience and there will be a need to cross‑cover within the team, as well as in the paediatric service, to ensure a safe service. The role is a specialist educational resource and the post holder will be expected to facilitate the professional development of junior nurses in the department. The post involves lifelong care for all patients with haemoglobinopathies and iron disorders. You will be responsible for all aspects of their care as designated below. The team liaises with external services such as the Red Cell Network Haemoglobinopathy coordinating centre (TRCN HCC), the National Haemoglobinopathy Panel (NHP), NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), as well as working closely with patients and their carers and health and care services outside of UCLH. The post holder will manage and coordinate clinical follow‑up programmes as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will act as a key worker for patients and require a sound knowledge of the potential medical and psychological needs of the patient.
