Applications are invited for whole‑time or part‑time Locum Consultant positions in General Anaesthesia.
The Anaesthetic department at Glenfield Hospital provides support for Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Vascular Surgery, Breast, HPB Surgery, major Urology, Renal Transplant services, Nephrology and non‑theatre activities such as Imaging, ECT, Community Dentals, sedation lists for ERCP, Bronchoscopies etc. The role also offers cross‑site support to Leicester General Hospital for Gynaecological surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology and Robotic surgeries.
Key Tasks
* Provide a safe and efficient anaesthetic service for elective and emergency care at UHL, maintaining the highest clinical standards.
* Work flexibly with colleagues and theatre teams to ensure smooth running of theatre lists.
* Support Consultant‑delivered Peri‑operative Medicine Service and high‑risk anaesthetic clinics.
* Provide on‑call rota cover for the High Dependency Unit and emergency theatre at LGH.
* Promote new ways of working and anaesthetic care for patients in peripheral hospitals and the East Midlands Planned Care Centre (EMPCC).
* Take part in multidisciplinary case discussions.
* Supervise, train and appraise junior medical staff.
* Teaching, research and administrative duties.
* Proactively develop the service.
* Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
* Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with consultants, CMG, local GPs and commissioners.
* Contribute to and/or support research and formal research duties after commencement.
* Participate in medical audit, Trust Clinical Governance processes and CPD.
* Manage budgetary responsibilities where appropriate and comply with standing orders and financial instructions.
* Ensure all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice and current quality initiatives.
Professional Development
* Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) to revalidate.
* Participate in Trust Corporate and Directorate specific induction and competency programmes.
* Annual appraisal and statutory mandatory training required.
