We are seeking an experienced nurse to join our central London teaching hospital as a Band 6 Paediatric Deputy Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department. Job responsibilities
The role of the Deputy Charge Nurse within the Emergency Department is key to ensuring the safe care of patients attending the UCH as emergencies. When in charge, you will be responsible for:
* Managing and supervising the nursing staff in the ED during your shift in partnership with the Consultant in Charge of the department.
* Assisting Senior Nurse and Charge Nurses in leading the nursing staff to meet quality of care and performance against the Care Quality Indicators (CQIs) for Emergency Services.
* Co‑ordinating the ED response in the event of a major incident (MAJAX).
* Working according to the NMC Code and relevant guidelines as a named nurse, ensuring high standards of patient care, assessing nursing and health education needs, and managing care programmes, including discharge planning.
* Acting as deputy for ward organisation and management, providing leadership in the absence of the senior sister/charge nurse.
* Promoting and implementing UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards, contributing to the Trust’s Top 10 Objectives.
* Developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
* Teaching, facilitating, mentoring and precepting student nurses, and participating in clinical supervision programmes.
Key working relationships: Work alongside Band 6 and Band 7 nurses, supported by a Band 7 Team Leader, Matron and Senior Nurses. Manage a team of Band 3 Nursing Assistants and Band 5 and 6 nurses. Collaborate with the clinical practice facilitator team for staff training and development and build relationships with the ED medical team, management team and senior operations team.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register)
* A&E Course/Capital Nurse QIS
* Degree
* Completion of RCN Level 1 and Level 2 Competencies
* Completion of NMTNG Level 2 Competencies
* ALS course
* Triage trained
Experience
* Substantial experience in Emergency Nursing – part of which might be at Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse level in an acute Emergency department
* Leadership experience – leading clinical areas without supervision
* Mentoring and supporting junior staff
Communication
* Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats
Personal and People Development
* Demonstrates evidence of professional development in line with KSF, maintains an updated portfolio
* Demonstrates an awareness of the role of preceptor/facilitator
* Reflective in practice
Quality
* Demonstrates understanding of principles of Clinical Governance, e.g. risk management, audit & quality

Salary: £47,951 to £56,863 per annum inclusive of HCAS
