This role has a starting salary of £27,634 per annum for working 36 hours per week.

About Surrey Fire and Rescue Service
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service provide an emergency service that looks after approximately 1.18 million people spread across approximately 1,676 square kilometres in a county that includes several large urban areas such as Guildford, Redhill, and Woking. Surrey has also been found to have the highest concentration of trees in the UK. There are 103 kilometres of motorway, two major airports nearby and there are more than 1000 sites identified as posing high risk throughout the county.
Surrey's firefighters are trained to deal with a range of emergency situations, not just fires and road traffic collisions. These activities include working with other agencies to respond to widespread flooding and other water rescue incidents or dealing with emergencies that may involve hazardous materials.
About the Role
As the Fleet Driver/Assistant you will be working in an exciting key role as part of a developing team of support staff to the frontline crews. The role of the Fleet Driver/ Assistant is to contribute to the work of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service by directly providing a range of support services within the fleet and engineering department.
Your main duties in the role of a Fleet Driver/Assistant will include but not be limited to:
* Ensure operational support vehicles, reserve appliances based within SFRS workshops are kept roadworthy, safe, clean and in a constant state of operational readiness.
* Responsible for movement of vehicles, equipment and vehicles between stations, workshops, manufacturer's premises and nationally as the service requires.
* Carry out routine checks, cleaning and basic upkeep of pool car fleet and other SFRS support vehicles, ensuring they remain roadworthy, safe and ready to use as required.
* Cleaning and maintenance of workshop areas, tools and equipment and the collection of spare parts from suppliers.
* Responsible for securing, maintaining, and protecting vehicles and appliances in storage/transit.
* Assist engineers in the commissioning and fitting out of new vehicles and stripping vehicles prior disposal.
* Assist with the tracking and management of reserve appliances and operational equipment.
* Load heavy equipment including but not exclusively, breathing apparatus cylinders, lengths of hose and ladders. This may include loading equipment for transportation.
* Perform other duties within Logistic Support as required enabling service targets or schedules to be met.
Your Application
In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:
* Full clean UK driving licence (Category C), no previous driving disqualifications (no driver CPC or Tacho card required for this position)
* Experience of conducting routine checks on vehicles to ensure they are roadworthy, safe, and ready to use
* Experience liaising with internal and external clients to resolve issues satisfactorily with appreciation of good customer care practices and excellent communication skills
* The ability to apply a knowledge of health and safety as it is applicable to the job role, with knowledge of manual handling regulations and confidence in safe manual handling procedures
* Exceptional knowledge of Surrey geography and major road layout
* Can work with accuracy, plan and prioritise work with the ability to adapt to changing situations and competence in general office IT tools such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
