About the role
We are recruiting a Communications Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive SEND school in Horncastle. The school provides personalised education for children and young people across a range of age groups, with a strong focus on communication, confidence, independence, and emotional development.
Working closely with teaching and support staff, you will play a key role in helping pupils access the curriculum through adapted communication strategies, structured routines, and encouraging learning environments. This role is available on a full-time or part-time basis, starting after May half-term.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils' communication needs by working alongside teaching staff to adapt lessons and activities to individual learning styles.
- Help break down tasks and instructions, using clear, accessible language and alternative communication methods where needed.
- Reinforce key learning points to support understanding and engagement for pupils with SEND.
- Use structured communication strategies such as visual supports, modelling, simplified instructions, and hands-on activities to promote participation.
- Encourage positive learning behaviours through calm, consistent support, helping pupils regulate emotions and re-engage with learning when required.
Pre-requisites
- Previous experience supporting children or young people in an educational, care, youth work, or community setting.
- An understanding of special educational needs and how communication differences can affect learning and behaviour.
- Confidence using a range of communication and learning strategies to support engagement and understanding.
- Ability to explain tasks clearly, model expectations, and adapt approaches to suit individual pupils.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent practical experience are desirable.
