Job Title: Generator Engineer – Electrical/Diesel
Location: Ideally within a 1-hour commute of Stockport
Reports To: Service Manager / General Manager
Salary: £38,000–£40,000, depending on experience and qualifications
Working Hours:

Mon–Thu 08:30–17:00, Fri 08:30–14:30 (37.5 hours per week)
*
Overtime may be required, including out-of-hours work

Participation in on-call rota
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Generator Engineer – Electrical/Diesel to join our client’s team. This hands-on role involves the maintenance, installation, service, and repair of standby diesel generators across mainland UK. The engineer will work closely with clients on-site and ensure all work is completed to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct pre-planned maintenance visits, site visits, and emergency call-outs, including fault diagnosis
*
Install new generators and switchgear
*
Upgrade control panels
*
Liaise with clients on-site to ensure all tools, spares, and materials are available
*
Complete work accurately and return all paperwork promptly
*
Report any identified problems or concerns to management immediately
*
Assist with general workshop duties when not travelling
*
Participate in on-call rota responsibilities
Essential Qualifications
*
18th Edition Wiring Regulations
*
2391 Inspection & Testing
*
City & Guilds ONC, BTEC ONC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
*
City & Guilds IEE Regulations
Essential Experience
*
Minimum 5 years as a qualified electrician, with at least 3 years’ experience working with standby diesel generators (not gas or HVO)
*
Knowledge of economical and effective electrical installation layouts
*
Ability to maintain high productivity
*
Strong working knowledge of diesel-driven generator sets and control systems
*
Technical knowledge and testing experience with electro/mechanical and electronic protection devices
*
Experience with PLCs and microprocessor-based control systems
*
Knowledge of HV/LV switchgear up to 11kV is desirable
