Length of employment: Job Summary: The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs over 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. The Chapel support is a key member of the liturgical staff of the chapel and is responsible for access and the care and security of the fabric and artefacts of the building, and for support to the Padre in managing arrangements for services and events. It is a public-facing role in a place that can receive more than 30,000 visitors in a typical summer, and hosts more than 150 services and events annually. This post is 37 hours net a week where weekend work is required when the Chapel is open. This role is to be based on-site. Job Description: This is an opportunity for you to work as part of a small team supporting the Padre of the Guards Chapel at Wellington Barracks. You will engage with the public and those who arrange events at the Chapel. This is an excellent chance to develop communicating skills, make decisions and work together to deliver the Guards Chapel outputs. The right candidate will be trustworthy, personable, and driven by a sense of mission towards the chapel and its diverse community. You will find yourself working in a building with great historical and cultural significance and participate in many of the great ceremonial occasions that punctuate the military year. Key responsibilities: Responsible for unlocking and facilitating daily access. Assist with security of the building and its contents during the working day. Identify and report building faults as they arise. Undertake care of specific items not included in routine cleaning (such as cleaning of silver). As the day to day 'face' of the chapel, assist visitors and manage public and visitor enquiries in person, directing as appropriate to clergy or other staff. Assist with the audit and reconciliation of collection money. Assist with preparation for services, recitals, concerts and other events as directed in support of the Senior Padre. Attend services and participate in processions and other duties as directed by the Senior Padre. Order supplies and monitor stocks as required. Dress formally for work in keeping with the situation and status of the Chapel. Liturgical wear for services will be provided as required.
