Job Summary
Phlebotomy Team Leader for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Responsible for supervising phlebotomy staff, ensuring patient safety, managing sample collection, and organising shift rosters across a 7‑day service.
Key Responsibilities
* Collect blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, clinics, GP surgeries and patients’ homes across all age groups.
* Undertake competency assessments of the Venepuncture procedure for new staff.
* Act as a point of reference for Health and Safety, supporting regular Health and Safety meetings in the absence of the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
* Monitor and record staff leave/absence.
* Ensure all mandatory training is completed.
* Perform all duties normally carried out by a phlebotomy supervisor when absent.
* Support the phlebotomy supervisor in their role and in compiling staff rotas.
* Safely dispose of contaminated materials, including sharps.
* Carry out reception duties, welcoming and advising patients and staff as required.
* Track and record samples to maintain audit‑ready information.
* Record Key Performance Indicators for the phlebotomy department.
* Manage consumable stocks and ensure availability.
* Support less experienced staff in orienting to the department and role.
* Participate in appraisals and personal reviews to achieve objectives.
* Provide a comprehensive phlebotomy service 7 days a week, all days of the year.
* Assist in delivering high‑quality service for staff and patients.
* Promote and monitor compliance with Health and Safety and Trust policies.
* Undertake duties as prescribed by the Network Phlebotomy Manager.

Additional Information
* Full & clean UK driving licence required.
* Must provide an immunisation and vaccination report, either from a UK occupational health provider or a UK GP.
* Shift patterns will include early, late, weekend and bank holiday shifts to support 24/7 service.
