JOB DESCRIPTION
Accountability:
The Laundry Assistant and Domestic staff are accountable to the Supervisor in charge.
Purpose of Appointment:
To share with other members of the domestic and care teams in meeting a high standard of cleanliness throughout the Home. To launder and iron residents' clothing and bedding to a high standard, adhering to the cleaning guidelines, avoiding contamination and spreading of pathogens, and maintaining respect for residents' privacy and dignity.
Hours
Fixed term contract with potential to become permanent ( 7.30am - 2.30pm, Monday to Saturday) as agreed at time of employment or as subsequently revised in agreement with the Registered Manager.
Principal Duties:
Undertake all laundry duties to the highest possible standard, ensuring satisfactory service to residents and their relatives, and reporting any complaints immediately to the Supervisor on duty.
1. To be familiar with and adhere to the home's policies, especially those relating to
a. COSSH – Control of Substances Harmful to Health
b. Health and Safety
c. Infection Control
d. Moving and Handling
1. Collect soiled items from the sluice room, sort soiled items into appropriate wash types and remove any items from pockets before laundering according to policy.
2. Tumble dry items as appropriate.
3. Put laundered clothes away tidily in the appropriate location. Return laundered sheets, bedding, towels and other items to Linen Cupboard.
4. Take care of equipment, ensure it is used correctly and report any problems.
5. Place un-labelled items in the lost property box.
6. At end of shift, empty rubbish bins, mop floor and leave the laundry tidy. Clean the iron if necessary. Work as part of a team, giving and accepting assistance from other members of the team as necessary.
7. Undertake COSHH and other training as required by Registered Manager.
8. Respect residents' privacy, e.g. by knocking on doors before entering.
9. Report to care staff when aware of any resident in need of urgent attention.
10. Maintain confidentiality of personal information about residents and staff according to GDPR.
