About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Technical - Agriculture based in Auckland, you will collaborate with various cross-functional teams such as livestock teams (breeder, hatchery, broiler farms/turkey and plant), the feed mill, and the wider team to provide technical expertise on animal welfare, biosecurity, regulatory, and compliance issues. You will navigate next steps and escalate when necessary to ensure compliance and maintain quality management systems.
Your pragmatic and practical approach will be key to success in this hands-on, busy role as you assist in maintaining the company's Livestock Risk Management Programme (RMP), Quality Management System (QMS), manuals, animal welfare certification, Transitional Facilities certifications, and customer compliance requirements.
This role offers a good mix of on-field and office-based work, with the opportunity to travel regionally across different business sites regularly. You will enjoy the diverse scope and breadth of the role, providing valuable opportunities to engage with people and influence them with your technical expertise.
A Day in the Life of Technologist - Agriculture
1. Conduct verification and assurance activities to ensure Agriculture, Livestock and Feedmill facilities are achieving required outcomes for food safety, biosecurity, quality, compliance, export, and animal welfare.
2. Assist with the training and coaching of Agriculture, Livestock and Feedmill to ensure the teams have knowledge, support, and competency to deliver food safety, biosecurity, quality, export, animal health, and welfare requirements.
3. Assist with external audits (regulatory, customer and SPCA).
4. Support Agriculture, Livestock and Feedmill to ensure internally raised non-conformances are effectively investigated, root cause analysis conducted, and corrective and preventative actions closed out and effective.
5. Review and monitor trends.
What You Will Bring to the Role
6. Science or Agriculture tertiary qualification, with at least 4 years' experience in quality assurance or compliance. (If no tertiary qualification in relevant field, 7 years relevant working "life experience" with clear demonstration of having gained significant on the job skills and knowledge).
7. Experience of animal welfare certification programmes (e.g. SPCA).
8. Experience of biosecurity in a Livestock environment and with Transitional Facilities.
9. Advanced Auditing, Advanced HACCP
10. Interpersonal skills, resilience, and solution focused.
11. Ability to work with internal/external stakeholders at different levels.
12. Passion for learning process quality controls and striving for continuous improvement.
