Overview
Head of Operations role at National Grid, based in Telford. Reporting to the West Midlands Operations Director, you will lead the Electricity Distribution Network in the West Midlands to ensure it is developed, operated and maintained efficiently and in accordance with legislation, policies and standards. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of 3-4 days in the office and the remainder from home.
Responsibilities
* Lead, inspire, motivate and develop Team Managers in effectively undertaking their duties.
* Set objectives, monitor and drive performance and take accountability for Electricity Distribution activities in the Distribution Area.
* Co-ordinate the formulation of Capital and Revenue Budgets for the Distribution Area and monitor and control expenditure.
* Ensure customers in the Distribution Area receive the highest standard of service commensurate with their needs and agreed standards.
* Resolve all customer complaints in the Distribution Area.
* Ensure the Distribution System is developed, operated and maintained efficiently and in accordance with legislation, policies and standards.
* Contribute to the development of engineering strategy, policy and objectives.
* Liaise with peers and key stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes for the operational business area, including internal stakeholders (other leaders within Field Operations and Asset Management, the Control Centre) and external stakeholders (customers, engineering managers of large customers, contractors up to Director level).
* Handle a wide range of problems—from technical to personal, organisational and customer-related issues—up to major system emergencies.
* Support Team Managers on technical and organisational matters influencing the performance of the Distribution Network and the Distribution Business.
* Provide information on financial and operating performance against objectives; identify ways to improve performance and promote change with a high degree of creativity and strategic vision.
* Develop individuals to lead in line with National Grid values and create a team environment that delivers results from the Depot.
* Promote good employee relations and foster an environment that motivates development of individuals.
Ideal Candidate
* Knowledge of working in a regulated industry; electricity sector experience is advantageous.
* A degree in Engineering or equivalent level of education is preferred but not essential.
* Experience of leading and managing teams through change.
* Ability to drive performance, motivate and manage teams.
* Effective communication with customers, suppliers, and internal/external stakeholders.
* NEBOSH qualification is desirable but not essential; strong commitment to safe working practices and a robust safety culture is valued.
