Healthcare Scientist Specialist – Advanced Histological Dissection

An opportunity has arisen in Histopathology, as part of Derbyshire Pathology, for an Advanced Healthcare Scientist in Histological Dissection. The greatest need is within breast & GI pathology specimen dissection.
The ideal candidate will have an ASD in breast dissection, or ASD in any other dissection specialism, especially skin, urology and breast. Candidates with a DEP will also be considered.
Main duties of the job
As a biomedical scientist specialising in advanced dissection, you will independently dissect RCPath category A-E histology specimens, work closely with pathologists and the MDT, and supervise, train and develop staff. Contributions to MDTs and teaching are required.
* Attendance at MDTs, contributing where appropriate
* Dissection of A-E histological specimens within scope of practice
* Leadership of at least one area of specialist dissection (e.g. breast) in conjunction with the Lead Consultant Histopathologist
* Teaching and training of all staff in histological techniques
Qualifications
* DEP Histological Dissection
* ASD Histological Dissection
* Fellowship of IBMS
* MSc Biomedical Science
* DEP GI/Breast
Experience
* Significant histological dissection experience as required for ASD
* Experience of clinical audit
* Teaching/training of healthcare scientists and medical staff
* Awareness of national training initiatives
* Knowledge of ISO15189 and its application
* Writing SOPs and training programmes
* Conducting appraisals and identifying training needs
* Interpretation of radiological images
* Attendance at cancer MDTs
Skills and Ability
* Effective communication with pathologists, managers, clinicians and laboratory colleagues
* Ability to teach and supervise effectively within a multidisciplinary environment
* Professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient-centred laboratory practice
