Overview

Purpose of the Job

• To teach pre-registration students, including the supervision of projects.

• To develop teaching materials, be involved in assessment and working to developing module coordination and leadership.

• To provide the highest quality pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students at all times.

• To undertake other administrative duties as designated by the Head of School.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching duties will include:

• Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.

• Motivate students to proactively engage in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.

• Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments in Physiotherapy.

• Supervise pre-registration projects.

• Be personal tutor to a number of pre-registration students, providing the highest quality, consistent, advice, guidance and support.

• Contribute to the development of new initiatives and programmes

• Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.

• Publish and share evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.

• Ensure adherence to organisational and professional body (i.e., CSP) requirements in all aspects of academic work, and in personal professional development

• Engage in scholarly, professional and improvement-related activities around Physiotherapy education in partnership with students, local stakeholders and service users.

• Contribute to the growth and improvement of the practice learning circuit capacity and quality, and support students’ learning in practice.

• Actively engage in strategic and project-related activities that maximise student engagement, and that mitigate the risks of attrition.

• Work toward leading the development of new modules, and the re-design and improvement of existing modules.

Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:

• Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g., School and University Open Days).

• Contribute to the School's management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator).

• Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.

• Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).

• To participate in performance review and developmental activities.

• To maintain a general and legal duty of care in relation to health, safety and wellbeing and must take all reasonable steps to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for him/herself and for other members of staff, students and visitors affected by his/her actions or inactions.

• To comply with all applicable health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.

• To comply with relevant legal and financial policies and procedures and be aware of their responsibilities in terms of the legal requirements of their posts.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent or working towards or completed a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area.

• Professional registration (on the appropriate part of the register) with the legislative body, Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and professional body, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

Desirable

• Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or be close to the completion OR Recognised by the HEA as a Fellow / Recognised by Advance HE as a Fellow against Descriptor 2 of the UKPSF

• MSc, PhD, or near to completion


Experience/Knowledge - Teaching

Essential

• A sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in Physiotherapy and healthcare.

• Evidence of teaching in clinical or academic settings.

Desirable

• Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.

• Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.


Experience/Knowledge – Scholarship

Essential

• Capability to develop and manage projects, and to disseminate results through presentation at relevant conferences, publication in relevant journals, social and other media.

Desirable

• Capability to publish scholarship in peer-reviewed journals of international standard, conferences, social and other media.


Skills/Abilities

Essential

• Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.

• Excellent verbal and written skills.

• Demonstrable computer skills, including MS Office, Powerpoint, Excel. This could also include use of Blackboard and other on-line learning platforms.

• Ability to use online platforms such as Microsoft teams or equivalent


Other

Essential

• An appreciation of the bilingual context of healthcare delivery and University education across North Wales.

• Able to travel across the placement circuit.

Desirable

• The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post. If applicants are not able to speak / write in Welsh at present, there are many opportunities to learn if the successful candidate wishes to do so.
