An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy Team as a Therapy Assistant at MMUH, our new hospital opened in October 2024. We seek an enthusiastic, motivated individual passionate about providing therapy to patients following traumatic injury or elective orthopaedic surgery.
This role involves working across our acute Trauma and Orthopaedic wards, supporting Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams in treating patients admitted after injury or surgery. Responsibilities include leading and executing treatment and rehabilitation plans, working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).
You will collaborate with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, and Doctors, gathering information from patients and their relatives or carers to understand social, environmental, and living circumstances. You will assess how injuries or surgeries impact patients' ability to participate in hobbies and meaningful activities upon discharge. Your support will help patients achieve their goals through rehabilitation and adaptive equipment, particularly focusing on elective orthopaedic surgeries.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams, ensuring optimal care for patients on the wards. You will manage a caseload involving therapy, rehabilitation, mobility progression, and equipment provision for patients post-surgery or injury. You will also assist with implementing functional and cognitive interventions and evaluating treatment outcomes.
This role contributes to hospital flow by supporting timely recovery and liaising with appropriate agencies for patient needs. Development of skills and knowledge is prioritized; training opportunities will be provided, along with support and guidance from registered staff.
