Job Description for Engineering Shift Leader

Our vibrant and fast-paced company employs 13,300 colleagues across 16 manufacturing units and 17 distribution depots nationwide, supplying a wide range of food products to UK retailers. Our extensive distribution network enables over 10,500 daily deliveries of our products and those of third parties. At Northampton, we operate one of Europe's most impressive facilities, with five manufacturing units and around 2,000 colleagues producing high-quality premium products daily. We are the exclusive supplier of sandwiches, wraps, rolls, and sushi for Marks & Spencer.
What You'll Be Doing
We are seeking a multi-skilled Engineer or Engineering Shift Leader to lead and empower a team of engineers in maintaining and improving plant and equipment performance to achieve maximum machine availability.
* Lead an engineering shift team to foster a high-performing, motivated, and engaged culture.
* Plan and prioritize shift workloads to meet production targets by maximizing machinery uptime.
* Execute planned preventative maintenance to minimize disruptions and maximize machinery uptime.
* Ensure all plant and equipment comply with relevant legislation and safety standards.
* Maintain permit to work procedures, ensuring safety for contractors and colleagues.
* Ensure adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP) and food safety requirements.
* Create a supportive environment for team development, setting expectations, and upholding policies.
* Document shift activities and performance accurately and timely, including reports, root cause analysis, and daily meetings.
Shift pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off (days).
What We're Looking For

* Hold a mechanical or electrical engineering qualification, preferably NVQ Level 3, gained through apprenticeship or study.
* Have knowledge of permit systems, risk assessments, and method statements.
* Possess supervisory experience.
* Have practical fault-finding experience on manufacturing machinery.
* Be familiar with PLC systems and fault diagnosis.
* Understand maintenance of engineering systems within a manufacturing environment.
* Experience in food or FMCG manufacturing is desirable.
