Job Summary: We’re looking for lawyers to make a key contribution to the Environment Agency’s work in regulating permitted industry, notably waste and installations, and addressing the civil aspects of illegal waste activity. You’ll provide timely, high‑quality advice and support to operational teams, handle civil enforcement action, liaise with partner bodies, and manage court challenges including judicial review and statutory appeals.
Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice and support to operational teams across the Agency.
* Deal with civil enforcement action and liaise with local and national government bodies.
* Represent the Agency in courts, including judicial review and statutory appeals.
* Work with Legal Services colleagues and operational clients nationwide.
Qualifications
* Fully qualified lawyer (solicitor, barrister or legal executive) entitled to practice in England and Wales.
* Excellent communication and drafting skills, with experience advising laypersons on statutory and case law.
* Experience handling contentious matters and a customer‑focused, organised, team‑player approach.
* Desirable: experience of environmental law and working for a regulatory body or local authority.
* 0–3 years post‑qualification experience (PQE).
