Band 3 Apprentice Generic Therapies Assistant - Stroke Wards

Band 3 Apprentice Generic Therapies Assistant - Stroke Wards

1 week ago Be among the first 25 applicants

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust are looking for a motivated Apprentice General Therapy Assistant to join our stroke therapies team. You will work alongside Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists providing rehabilitation plans. Working across the Stroke wards along the pathway including our Hyper acute and acute stroke unit at Queen’s Hospital and our Rehab unit in Goodmayes.

As a member of this team, you will need excellent communication skills and be able to work within guidelines and protocols. Working in this innovative team you will have the opportunity to gain clinical skills and knowledge with regular training and by completing the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship.

As a leading and evidence-based department we provide a 7 day service. We are looking for a person who will enjoy the benefits of this working pattern.

If you already hold a Healthcare qualification at Level 3 or above or have extensive experience working in healthcare, then you are not eligible to apply for this post.

Please read the advert and Job Description carefully before applying, ensuring that you demonstrate how you meet the criteria in the person specification.

To provide skilled routine, and some non-routine, clinical and non-clinical support to the Therapy team, this includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists.

To accept patients allocated by the qualified therapist and treat according to protocols and guidelines, monitoring patient progression and making minor alterations to patient treatment programs as required

To work independently, with access to direct supervision as required. To maintain close communication with the qualified therapists to facilitate patient care

To actively participate in departmental induction and in-service training program

To carry out other duties deemed necessary by the relevant Team Lead in discussion with the post holder to ensure adequate provision of service

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, was named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal in 2024.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
