Being part of a dynamic healthcare team, the successful candidate will play a vital role within the Emergency Department. The role requires excellent written and verbal communication, self‑initiative and a solid understanding of office IT software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, HISS and Nexus. The applicant will also be expected to undertake clinical transcription, answer telephone calls and emails, retrieve case notes, and file clinical correspondence.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the Consultants and their clinical team.
* Manage and prioritise own workload without direct supervision.
* Provide cross cover for other secretaries during absenteeism.
* Answer telephone calls, maintain electronic correspondence and assist with retrieval of case notes.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Education of 5 GCSE grades A-C or equivalent
* Good command of the English language
* ECDL or IT qualification
Experience and Knowledge
* Computer literate with experience of MS Office software
* Substantial experience in a clerical/secretarial/administrative role
* Effective communication skills, verbal and written, at all levels within the organisation
* Previous experience working in the NHS
* Knowledge of the Blackpool Way & Foundation Trust
Skills and Ability
* Good literacy and numeracy skills
* Excellent organisational skills
* Ability to follow simple instructions and procedures
* Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure
* Willingness to be flexible to meet the demands of a busy department
