The diversity of our economy andmunities and investment in a number of exciting regeneration projects makes our Council a great place to work, learn and make a difference.Your new roleWe are looking for an Engineer to join the Highways & Coastal – Project Delivery & Highway Asset Management team on a full-time and permanent basis. Although this contract is offered on a hybrid basis, it will be predominantly site-based, with abination of attending the office and working from home.As an Engineer, you will lead and support senior engineers with the technical execution of design and engineering activities on a variety of engineering projects, including feasibility studies, consultations, site inspections, surveys, contract administration duties, reporting and technical queries. You will oversee the production of various aspects of design in accordance with relevant design standards and codes, including sign-off in accordance with grade.You will prepare and design allocated elements of contract documents for various civil engineering schemes with minimal supervision using appropriate national design codes and standards such as DMRB, MfS, MCHW, IANs, HPNs, TSRGD, Traffic Sign Manuals & relevant FCERM documentation. You will support the Senior Engineers / Principal Engineer at internal and external meetings, events and workshops to ensure delivery of projects and programmes.What you'll need to succeedTo be successful in this role, good knowledge and application of Highway and Health and Safety legislation, including construction (Design and Management) regulations, is essential for this role. It is essential that you have working knowledge of financial management, including budgetaryernance and controls. You must be able to provide timely and accurate advice to senior leaders/members/local councillors and the public on all highway, flooding and coastal-related matters.Good written and verbalmunication skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective internal and external working relationships, are crucial for this role. You must be able to prepare and design allocated elements of contract documents for various civil engineering schemes with minimal supervision using appropriate national design codes and standards.Your application will not be considered if you do not have one of the following:
1. Degree or HNC in civil engineering / highways / related discipline.
2. Membership of (or working towards) a professional body and 5+ years’ experience.
3. Equivalent knowledge and experience of working within at least one relevant field (Highways Design/Maintenance, Flooding & Drainage Design or Coastal Design/Maintenance), Traffic Management, Road Safety or Parking)
