Position: Shunter

Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Shunter to join our team on a full-time, basis. The Shunter will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and timely movement of trains within our rail yard. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is looking to grow their career in the rail industry and be a part of a dynamic and innovative company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate shunting locomotives to move trains within the rail yard
- Perform safety checks on locomotives and report any issues to the maintenance team
- Communicate effectively with train crews and other rail yard personnel
- Follow all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment
- Inspect and maintain rail yard tracks, switches, and other equipment
- Complete necessary paperwork and documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Assist with loading and unloading of rail cars as needed
- Participate in training and development programs to continuously improve skills and knowledge
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- NVQ3 or Suitable Apprenticeship
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a shunter in a rail yard setting
- Knowledge of rail yard operations and safety protocols
- Ability to operate shunting locomotives and other rail yard equipment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays if needed
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
