Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Rotherham (S25) Salary: £460 – £600 per week Contract Type: Full time, long-term / Day-to-day Start Date: Immediately Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? An exciting opportunity has arisen at a school in Rotherham (S25) for a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive team and make a real difference to students’ lives. About the School: The school offers a structured, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment tailored to support students with SEMH needs. It works with pupils from a wide range of backgrounds and places a strong emphasis on emotional well-being, positive behaviour support, and personalised learning. Through consistent routines, clear expectations, and strong staff collaboration, the school helps students build confidence, resilience, and engagement in learning. About the Role: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them regulate emotions, engage with learning, and develop positive relationships. This role is ideal for someone patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable learners. Responsibilities: • Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them access learning and manage behaviour positively. • Assist the class teacher in delivering structured and engaging lessons, adapting activities to meet individual needs. • Build trusting relationships with students to encourage emotional regulation and positive behaviour. • Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised support plans consistently and effectively. • Monitor student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teaching and pastoral staff. • Support students during transitions, break times, and structured activities to promote engagement and safety. Qualifications: • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs is desirable. • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging behaviour. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider support team. • A genuine commitment to supporting students’ emotional and academic development.
