Overview
A PART-TIME Personal Assistant is sought to support a 17-year-old person living in the Beddau area with family and pets. They enjoy colouring, piano, cooking and would like to ice skate more often. They also take part in performing arts. They use they/them pronouns. They experience non-epileptic seizures and feelings of anxiety. They are diagnosed with autism. They tire easily, so on longer days out a wheelchair may be used.
Purpose of job
The PA will support access to the community, participation in social activities, and development of social skills, with the aim of increasing independence.
Hours of work
6 hours per week during term time and 12 hours during school holidays. During term time, 4 hours on Monday and 2 hours on Wednesday. Holidays are more flexible. Applicants may apply for part hours if unable to commit to both days.
Rates of pay
£13.50 per hour and 40p per mile where applicable.
Tasks involved
* Take me ice skating.
* Support me to use public transport.
* Go out for a coffee.
* Help me cook at home.
* Show me how to complete some domestic tasks.
* Potentially learn lines with me.
* Build up to going swimming one day.
* Help me develop social skills.
* Potentially attend a club together.
* Ensure my safety and watch for signs of tiredness during activities.
Type of person required
* Someone with a good sense of humour; very friendly and kind.
* A person who is not shy or quiet and is comfortable working in a home with pets (dogs and cats are a bonus).
* A calm person in case of seizures.
* Someone with good awareness/experience working with neurodivergence/autism/mental health.
* A car driver with business-class insurance.
About the job
Though part-time, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number. A trial period will be necessary. The wage will be paid monthly and appropriate holiday pay given. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check, the cost of which will be met by the employer (Local Authority). The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure the applicant has the right to work in the UK.
