Role purpose

The Lab Technician ensures that raw materials and finished products are tested and released to the business in compliance with agreed Quality and Food Safety standards. Responsible for the completion of all administration tasks associated with the laboratory. The role supports production and production planning processes, QA management and project work.


Main accountabilities

Quality Laboratory Operations

* Responsible for testing of ingredients and finished product according to specific testing schemes/plans.

* Allergen testing

* Enters ingredient and finished product test results into Oracle.

* Review ingredient Certificates of Analysis generates testing plans for ingredients and finish products.

* Evaluation of results and arrange retests and inform relevant departments.

* Files all daily quality paperwork and electronic quality documents in proper filing locations (deviation reports, general statements, supplier COAs).

* Participates in internal and external ring tests.

* Participates in method validation.

* Maintain sample retention system for ingredients and finished goods and disposal of out-of-date samples

* Perform calibration activities.

* Manage the inventory of the lab.

* Identify and rectify ingredient issues with Great Bear

* Setting up test plans

* Updating JRA and procedures

* Ships samples to external laboratories including preparation and entering and evaluation of the results.

* Generate Certificates of Analysis for finished products and send out to customers

* Standard evaluation calculations of specification limits

* Manage E -mail requests - internal and external

* Support with business and customer requests

* Project work


Customer Focus

* Assists in supplier and customer complaint, nonconformity, and deviation investigations.

* Product shelf-life extension requests for customers


Quality and Food Safety Management System

* Participate in Traceability exercises/mock recall exercises

* Provide training for apprentices, students, new employees

* Participate and help in the preparation for internal and external audits (customer audit, FESMA, GCA, ESA, GFSI audits)



FES Duty of Care:

Food Safety

· Carry out responsibilities/duties according to food safety, legal and quality requirements so as to ensure that our products are fit for human consumption.



Environment

* Comply with all environmental standards, procedures and work instructions at all times.

* Report any environmental violations or concerns in order to prevent any impact upon the local environment, its inhabitants and Tate & Lyle.

Health & Safety

* Adhere to the safety policies, procedures and site rules.

* Actively participate in local EHS programmes including reporting any incidents or concerns and auditing.

Performance measures

· First Pass Quality

· Blend Deviations

· Customer complaint rate

· GFSI certifications

· Engagement as per the Gallup results

· Cost of Non-Conformance

· Blocked stock

· Support Quality budget targets


Legislative requirements




Ensure regulatory compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices such as 21 CFR 117 or EU 852/2004 and EU 853/2004.

* Ideally an associate degree (A Levels) or high school diploma with at least 2 years working experience in a food manufacturing analytical laboratory.

* Experience in food industry

* Include understanding of product labelling requirements, allergen management, Good Laboratory Practices

* A working knowledge of SAP/Oracle, and quality programs

* Excellent computer skills

* Excellent organizational skills

* Good problem-solving skills

* Good Analytical Chemistry skills

* English Language
